Services

LISL are experienced in all aspects of refractory installation and particularly in the installation of monolithic materials. We can provide Pump or Vibro-Casting, Hot remote gunning and shotcreting; Cold manual gunning, Drycreting and Shotcreting; Bricklaying; Ramming and patching

LISL can advise on and source the optimum refractory materials for each specific application. From Turn key refractory installation projects down to small refractory repairs, we aim to minimise downtime whilst upholding the highest standards of Health and Safety and craftsmanship.

Our refractory engineers and supervisors are able to deliver the following services:

      • refractory lining design
      • refractory drawings
      • dryout supervision and commissioning guidance
      • supervision and site management
      • inspection and recommendations
      • installation; in-house and sub-contracting
      • equipment; mixers, pumps and guniting
We work across a range of process industries including:

  • Petrochemical
  • Iron and Steel
  • Energy from Waste and waste heat generation
  • Incineration
  • Aluminium
  • Cement

Design

As well as our installation services LISL provide technical and engineering services in the fields of combustion, incineration, heat treatment and energy conversion.

With a wide variety of furnace designs and fuels, the types of refractories used can vary considerably. Careful consideration of the type of furnace conditions and firing method is needed before a refractory material can be selected. The destructive conditions present must also be identified before refractory materials are selected.

Typical furnace destructive service conditions are:

  • Chemical Attack
  • Abrasion & Erosion
  • Thermal Shock

Through 3D modelling we can provide design improvements for new or existing furnace structures including FEA calculations for mechanical and thermal stresses and aid in the design of pre-formed refractory shapes.

Subsequent thermal expansion calculations which are a very important factor in the refractory lining design can be generated and incorporated in the design to prevent thermal stresses caused by expansion/contraction.

Using our thermal profiling software we can calculate heat loss and theoretical shell temperatures for various lining configurations and subsequently recommend the most economical solution. From these calculations we would recommend the most suitable materials, thicknesses, and types of refractory anchors, tailored to suit your specific application.

LISL utilize CFD fluid dynamics to study complex fluid flow and heat transfer in new and existing furnace applications to locate problems and provide solutions. CFD gives a competitive edge over other analyses due to its visual presentation of the observed conditions and proposed modification.

CFD can be used to evaluate emissions control and legislative compliance, incinerator residence times, lining wear profiles, heat distribution across furnace areas, burner flame impingement, furnace temperature control, heat loss improvement and heat exchanger analysis, reducing operating costs and down time reduction.

Designs can be tested before any physical manufacturing is done, relatively simple modelling can pay large dividends in testing the feasibility of a concept and in ensuring the appropriate furnace geometry, burner configurations, help with emissions problems, plant reliability, premature failure of linings and control system faults are met.

LISL can provide installation drawings, recommended installation procedures, commissioning procedures such as curing and drying out, technical and COSHH datasheets and maintenance plans.

Project onboarding:

From the point of contact with LISL, one of our project managers will respond quickly to determine your needs and make a site visit and/or inspection if required. We work with our customers to understand their schedule, KPIs and any other specific requirements.

In addition, throughout the course of any project LISL will

  • Attend pre-shutdown meetings and contribute to planning activities by raising potential issues.
  • Liaise with all interested parties to co-ordinate the work.
  • Ensure permits are in place and in-date for the work areas.
  • Attend and contribute to daily planning meetings.
  • Monitor progress against programme base line, highlighting immediate corrective actions required to curtail the risk of overruns.
  • Ensure plant, equipment and materials are on site in sufficient levels to execute the work planned.
  • Ensure plant and equipment is well maintained and spares are readily available to minimise possible impact from equipment breakdowns.

Comprehensive and job specific Safe Systems of Work, including detailed risk assessments and method statements, are provided in advance of each job. LISL conduct site safety audits routinely during the onsite working period.

Whatever the size of your project needs, LISL are willing to help.
